Advancing EV and Hybrid Technology with Efficient Thermal Management

As electric vehicles (EVs) and hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs and PHEVs) become more widespread, the need to minimize the environmental impact of traditional internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles continues to grow. Unlike gasoline-powered vehicles that rely on stored chemical energy, EVs and hybrids utilize large battery packs to power their electric drivetrains. Ensuring these batteries operate efficiently requires precise management of voltage, current, and temperature at the individual cell level.

To maintain safe and reliable performance, modern battery management systems (BMS) are integrated into these vehicles. However, the advanced computing power required for battery monitoring generates significant heat, which can compromise system functionality if not properly dissipated. Introducing THERM-A-GAP® CIP 60

To meet the evolving needs of automotive manufacturers and their suppliers, Matrix Technology presents THERM-A-GAP® CIP 60, a high-performance, two-component (2K) cure-in-place thermal gap filler with 6.0 W/m-K thermal conductivity. This advanced material provides a superior alternative to rigid-curing dispensable compounds and traditional thermal gap filler pads, enhancing application flexibility and thermal performance.

One of the key advantages of THERM-A-GAP® CIP 60 is its soft-curing formulation. Once set, it becomes a low-hardness (50 Shore 00) gap pad, ensuring effective thermal contact while minimizing mechanical stress on sensitive electronics. In battery environments where temperatures fluctuate dramatically, rigid materials can crack or cause damage due to thermal expansion. In contrast, THERM-A-GAP® CIP 60 adapts to these dimensional changes, reducing the risk of component failure.

Additionally, its reworkability simplifies maintenance and repairs, making it an ideal choice for applications where future servicing may be required.

Low Viscosity and Fast Snap-Cure

Designed for precision dispensing, THERM-A-GAP® CIP 60 features a low viscosity, allowing it to flow smoothly into complex geometries, fill gaps efficiently, and displace air for optimal thermal conductivity. With a 1:1 mix ratio and availability in multiple cartridge sizes, it can be applied seamlessly using either manual or automated dispensing systems.

A major benefit of THERM-A-GAP® CIP 60 is its fast snap-cure capability, enabling it to solidify quickly, reducing processing time while enhancing manufacturing efficiency. This rapid cure feature also minimizes oil bleed, preventing unwanted migration of materials and ensuring stable long-term performance.
