Designing electronics for naval and shipboard environments requires more than performance—it demands resilience. From aircraft carriers to exploratory vessels, every electronic system must withstand harsh aquatic conditions, persistent moisture, and electromagnetic interference (EMI). The stakes are high in mission-critical applications, and reliable protection is essential.
Meeting Marine Challenges Head-On
Naval platforms are packed with communication, navigation, and data systems—all operating in close proximity. EMI shielding is vital to ensure signal integrity across devices, while environmental sealing protects against fog, spray, saltwater, and humidity. Long-term durability is a must, and galvanic corrosion is a top concern—especially given that the U.S. Department of Defense spends over $23 billion annually on corrosion-related maintenance.
CHO-SEAL® Conductive Elastomers: A Dual-Purpose Solution
A family of EMI shielding gaskets that meet the dual demands of shielding and sealing in marine environments. CHO-SEAL® 6502 is a standout solution—combining nickel-plated aluminum particles in a silicone binder to deliver over 100 dB of shielding while minimizing galvanic corrosion against common substrates like chem-filmed aluminum.
Need added chemical resistance? CHO-SEAL® 6503 uses the same filler but replaces the binder with fluorosilicone, offering enhanced resistance to cleaning agents and harsh fluids often encountered in military environments.
These elastomers can be formed into virtually any shape or cross-section and enhanced with fabric reinforcement or embedded wire mesh for improved grounding and mechanical durability.
Versatile Options for Naval Electronics Protection
Beyond CHO-SEAL®, we also offer:
-
CHO-BOND® conductive sealants and adhesives for EMI containment and environmental sealing
-
CHO-SHIELD® conductive coatings for board-level and enclosure-level EMI shielding
Corrosion Testing & Design Assurance
All materials undergo rigorous testing, including long-term environmental exposure simulations and shielding effectiveness assessments, ensuring dependable performance throughout the product lifecycle.
